Big Baby!

At my doctor appointment on Tuesday the doctor started checking me to see if I was dilated. I have been cleaning everything and the Saturday before Emily and I took a trip to the zoo, so with all the walking and all the hills and all the cleaning I was so sure she was going to tell me I was dilated to a four and was going to stay and deliver a baby. Instead she told me that baby boy hadn't even dropped yet! In fact he was so high that she couldn't even tell if I was dilated at all! I was a little disappointed but honestly wasn't expecting anything else.

I sat up and she asked me if I was bigger then when I had Emily. I told her I wasn't sure but my husband thought so :) The doctor started to feel by belly and told me that he was measuring at 38 weeks instead if 37. She said she guessed that he was already at 8 lbs! She said that because he was measuring larger we could schedule an induction depending on if I was dilated at my next appointment. She doesn't want to induce me if I'm not dilating since that will increase my risk for a c-section. She said since Emily was almost 9 lbs she knows I can have larger babies.

Emily was 8 lbs 15 oz and I had a 3rd degree tear that took me 6 weeks to recover from. All those memories came back to me and I just started to cry. I didn't want to have a bigger baby. The doctor assured me that already having a baby will decrease the likely hood of tearing that bad again. I'm sure everything will be just fine. My body isn't doing anything it wasn't intended to.

Later that night I had some pretty strong contractions. I described them to my mom and she said they were real contractions not just Braxton Hicks. I feel silly that I am having my second child and I don't know what contractions feel like! With Emily I didn't feel any contractions until my water broke and I was in the comfort of the hospital where I could have an epidural!

Since Tuesday I've had cramping on and off and I can only hope these are real contractions that are helping me dilate. My due date is still 3 more weeks away but a lot of family members have told me they think I will have him before my due date. I guess we'll see :)
